2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) update

Earlier this week we reached out with initial information on the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019nCoV). CDC released an update today, please read full article for details.

Patient Safety Alert

We are actively investigating an issue where the Quantity Qualifier may not save as expected in the Rx Refill Form. When entering a medication using the Update Medication form for the first time, a provider can define the dosage type. However, when the provider saves it to the medication list and refills it with the Rx Refill form, it may not pull in the intended quantity qualifier (dosage type). For more information including recommendations, please read full article.

Known Product Issues: Electronic Prescription Renewal

Dear Centricity Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Customers:

We would like to direct your attention to two important product issues with electronic prescription renewal requests:

Issue #1: The medication in the message to the pharmacy may be incorrect if the user makes a change to the renewal following a non-standard workflow. This will affect all versions of Centricity Practice Solution 12.2.X, 12.3.X and Centricity EMR 9.10.X, 9.12.X.

Issue #2: In response to an electronic renewal request from the pharmacy, a user can change the quantity qualifier in the prescription refill form. Upon making the change using the inline edit field, the patient instructions will be replaced with “Undefined”. If the user proceeds without modifying the instructions, the resulting response to the pharmacy reverts to the original prescription with the original quantity qualifier and patient instructions. However, the chart note and prescription history will maintain the changes and display the new quantity qualifier and “Undefined” in the instructions. If the user changes the quantity qualifier in the prescription form via the edit icon, the resulting response to the pharmacy will not contain the change in quantity qualifier that is now represented in the patient’s medication list. This will affect all versions of Centricity Practice Solution 12.3.X and Centricity EMR 9.12.X.

Log in to the Customer Portal and read the communication from Chad Dodd, Vice President and General Manager, Ambulatory Practice Solutions, for more information.

The good news is that we worked with Microsoft on this issue and a resolution is available for Windows 10 update build 1809. Encore of ONC 2015 Edition Compliance Webinar Added to Series

Dear Centricity™ Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Customers:

Spring flowers are beginning to bloom, so we are getting ready to wrap up our winter webinar series.

Before we do, we’ve scheduled an encore performance of an important webinar, “ONC 2015 Edition

CEHRT Preparedness: CMS Requires More Than an Upgrade” to allow more customers to attend the

session live. This webinar will take place on April 30, 2019.

As I mentioned in a prior communication, we want to be sure you are aware that compliance with

the 2019 CMS (Medicare and Medicaid) quality payment programs1 will require a four-step

process that we estimate will take approximately three months. This process must be

complete before the start of your reporting period, so the time to prepare is now.

Log in to the Customer Portal and read the communication from Chad Dodd, Vice President and General Manager, Ambulatory Practice Solutions, for more information or click here to register for the webinar.

athenahealth Integration Status Update

Dear Centricity™ Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Customers:

We are now eight weeks into the merger with athenahealth, and I am writing to reassure you that, although our corporate name has changed, our commitment to you is unwavering. We are now one company under the athenahealth brand that supports both the Centricity and athenaOne product suite. We will continue to proceed with planned release updates and endeavor to provide the best possible support for Centricity Practice Solution, Centricity EMR, Community Health Solution, and related products. Your success and satisfaction are our number one priority.

We remain focused on upgrading and maintaining the comprehensive workflow solutions that integrate EMR, practice management, population health, patient engagement, analytics and connectivity solutions to help you serve your patients. In the last six months we’ve:

  • Enabled access to PDMP in over thirty states
  • Kicked-off the SP3 Limited Availability process
  • Deployed VBC Analytics to hundreds of providers
  • Deployed Hospital Connect v1.0 to over 35 practices across the country
  • Released Hospital Connect v2.0 with auto-query in Limited Availability – Released Ambulatory Population Health tools
  • Released a new Workflow Optimization Analytics application
  • Continued to deploy FHIR based APIs
  • Developed v19 to be released in the second half of the year
  • Provided access to hundreds of online training courses
  • Supported many customers with their deployment of Simple Chart

Over the last few weeks, we’ve received a lot of valuable insights from you. You’ve shared the features that you value the most, such as managing your own revenue cycle processes, the ability to create robust and customized content, and the open access to, and reportability of, your data. We’ve also learned more about the things we could improve, including the eRx process, immunizations, and the overall user interface.

We are taking all of your recent and prior feedback and are incorporating portions of it in a revised roadmap that we’re planning to release later this year. In the meantime, we remain committed to our planned 2019 releases and the solutions you are anticipating. Centricity Practice Solution and Centricity EMR v.19 are scheduled for Limited Availability in the second half of the year.

We continue to make progress on the integration of our two companies. We believe our combined organization will bring you even more value through extensive expertise, exceptional customer experience, and industry-leading capabilities. As Bob Segert, our Chairman and CEO, indicated in his letter announcing the merger on February 11th, our goal is to leverage the best of both the Centricity and athenaOne offerings to bring an improved, world class portfolio to market. We are committed to our strategic priorities of helping you navigate the transition to value-based care, improving revenue cycle performance, and enhancing the clinician experience. We expect to share more about our combined product strategy later in the year.

Thank you again for your continued partnership with us. We will be as transparent as possible through this integration process, and you can expect to hear more from us in early May. We continue to seek your feedback, and would appreciate your input on this three-minute survey to tell us how we’re doing and submit ideas for how we can better serve you.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Virence User Conference

Dear Virence Health customer,

We are reaching out to you today to inform you that, after much consideration, we will not be holding the Virence Health Customer Summit (formerly known as Centricity™ LIVE) this year. As you are aware from earlier announcements, we expect to fully combine with athenahealth very soon. This transaction presents us with new opportunities for leveraging the combined scale and expertise of our two organizations to deliver superior value to our customers. Postponing the Summit will allow us to take a step back, evaluate and optimize our customer engagement strategy to ensure we’re seizing every opportunity available to add new value and deliver a better customer experience. Hurricane Harvey – Disaster Exceptions/Exemptions for Medicare Certified Providers Affected by Severe Storms & Flooding

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is granting exceptions under certain Medicare quality reporting and value-based purchasing programs to acute care hospitals, PPS-exempt cancer hospitals, inpatient psychiatric facilities, skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, hospices, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, outpatient dialysis facilities, long-term care hospitals, and ambulatory surgical centers located in areas affected by Hurricane Harvey due to the devastating impact of the storm. These providers will be granted exceptions without having to submit an extraordinary circumstances exception request if they are located in one of the Texas counties or Louisiana parishes, all of which have been designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a major disaster county.

The scope and duration of the exception under each Medicare quality reporting program is described in the memo posted on 8-31-17; however, all of the exceptions are being granted to assist these providers while they direct their resources toward caring for their patients and repairing structural damages to facilities.

If FEMA expands the current disaster declaration for Hurricane Harvey to include additional counties or parishes, CMS will update this memo to expand the list of providers eligible to receive an exception without submitting a request to include the hospitals, PPS-exempt cancer hospitals, inpatient psychiatric facilities, skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, hospices, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, long-term care hospitals, and ambulatory surgical centers located in the additional counties and parishes.

In addition, CMS will continue to monitor the situation and adjust exempted reporting periods and submission deadlines accordingly.

Additional details and materials are available on the CMS Hurricane webpage. Please check back frequently for updates.

ACTION ALERT: Ask your legislator to Co-Sponsor HR 3940 – the MU Hardship Relief Act

Message from AAOE:

You may have seen in the last issue of “Coffey Talk” that AAOE and similar organizations are pushing to have a new exception to the meaningful use program added into the omnibus budget legislation currently being negotiated in the halls of Congress. While staff is working with members of the House Committee on Appropriations to get this included, we need your help. The more co-sponsors the legislation creating the new exception has, the more likely it is to be included in the omnibus.

PLEASE, write your Representative and ask that they co-sponsor HR 3940 – The Meaningful Use Hardship Relief Act of 2015. Simply follow this link and TAKE ACTION.

Thank you for taking a few minutes to write your legislators. AAOE will keep you updated through Coffey Talk from the Hill and The OrthoActivist on this issue as it continues to develop.

Meaningful Use Stage 2 Tips: Core Measure 12 (Preventive Care)

To meet Core Measure 12, Centricity has the ability to mass generate letters in conjunction with Inquires to transmit targeted reminder letters. It is possible to retrieve a subset of patients with a certain condition who were seen on a given date range. After retrieving the list, reminder letters can be generated for each patient, pulling patient specific details into the letter template. To have the action counted with CQR, the letter MUST be saved in a folder with “Actionable” in the title.

Example: To setup an inquiry to retrieve diabetic patients seen in a month, an inquiry can be setup with these criteria:
FIND patients WHERE problem code ICD-9, active CONTAINS ‘250’ AND FIND patients WHERE appointment date IS ON OR AFTER 01/01/2015 AND FIND patients WHERE appointment date IS BEFORE 02/01/2015.

After clicking search and retrieving the information, reminders can be generated by selecting the activity of SEND REMINDER. Find the letter template and click print.

Message from the CHUG Board

CHUG UPDATE

Good Day CHUG Community,
The CHUG Board hopes all of you enjoyed CHUG at Centricity Live. If you missed it, we encourage you to join us for our next conference this October in New York City.

As I start to settle back into my routine, I think back and am struck by how much we have collectively accomplished and how far we have to go. The CHUG Board spent a great deal of time discussing how to ensure we are properly informing our membership about everything that we do on your behalf. Transparency is a big part of Advocacy because it allows us to build trust in one another. Our goal over the months leading up to our conference in NYC will be to send out monthly updates from the CHUG Board.

On Friday May 1st, the second day of the CHUG at Centricity LIVE conference, the CHUG Board was able to sit down with Mr. Jan De Witte and members of his leadership team. We spoke frankly, openly, and honestly about the struggles all of our members have encountered over the past year. We did note, although there have been struggles, recently it seems as if the corner is being turned and things are starting to get better. Mr. De Witte acknowledged there is still much work to be done to build back up the trust, but gave a firm commitment to stay involved in the process. He further committed to working on a messaging and communication process that will allow GE to become much more transparent benefitting all of their customers.

The CHUG Board looks forward to working with Mr. De Witte’s team to implement this plan in the coming months.

Another important meeting at CHUG centered on our discussions with SureScripts. As many of you may already know, Surescripts has spun out their Care Coordination solution under the brand of Kryptiq. The Patient Portal, Document Management, and ePrescribing remain under the name of Surescripts Enterprise Solutions. Mr. Paul Uhrig, EVP of the SureScripts Enterprise Services division, has assured us of a similar transparent communication and messaging path. We hope to implement this in the coming months.

If you were unable to attend the conference or missed the opening session, I spoke about “CHUG being what you make it”. I encouraged everyone to find that one thing you can take back to your office or clinic or hospital- one innovation, workflow change, new product or idea that will make the all the difference to you or your physicians, nurses, biller, or front desk staff. Hopefully you were able to find and accomplish your one thing, if not, there is still time. If you have not already done so, please send us your one thing to [email protected] or #mychugonething.

All of this is just the beginning, 2015 is about Advocacy and we need your help. Sign up for a committee and volunteer to be part of this vibrant community, we need you. If at any time you would like to discuss something with us or have a question, email the CHUG Board at [email protected] Thank you for your time and attention, I look forward to seeing all of you in New York City on October 1-3, 2015 for the Fall CHUG Conference.

Respectfully,

The CHUG Board of Directors

Product Issue affecting PQRS & MU: CQMs CMS 68 & CMS 147

Message from GE Healthcare:
Dear Centricity Practice Solution and Centricity EMR Customers:

We are writing to advise you of an important issue pertaining to PQRS and Meaningful Use reporting with Clinical Quality Reporting (CQR). We have learned that results for Clinical Quality Measure (CQMs) CMS 68 and CMS 147 may not be calculated appropriately for your practice. This communication describes the nature of the problem, what we have done to resolve it, and actions we recommend to ensure the appropriateness of your PQRS and/or Meaningful Use reporting using CQR results.

In summary, we recommend four scenarios for action.
* For those who plan to use or have already used CQR for PQRS and for those who plan to use CQR for Meaningful Use, we recommend the actions described below.
* For those who have already used CQR for Meaingful Use for Medicare, NO ACTION is required.
* For those who have already used Crystal Reports or plan to use Crystal Reports (or another reporting mechanism) to attest for Meaningful Use, NO ACTION is required.
* For those who have already used CQR for Meaningful Use for Medicaid, we recommend that you contact your state for guidance.

After that time, eligible professionals will no longer be able to switch programs.

Medicare eligible professionals must attest to meaningful use every year to receive an incentive and avoid a payment adjustment. Providers who successfully attest for the 2014 program year will:
